The Versatility of Vaseline

Ok, so we all know you can use this for your lips but petroleum has numerous other fascinating and practical uses, which you may find surprising. Here are some I have come across…

1) Removing make-up

I know… I found this a bit dubious too but my friend swears by it! She uses it to just lift off the majority of her eye makeup before cleansing the rest off. It would also be good for erasing mistakes with a cotton bud.

2) Strengthening nails

Dotting a bit of Vaseline on your nails and rubbing in with a circular motion is supposed to do wonders for your nails. I already have pretty strong nails but find it makes them look more healthy and passes time in a physics lesson!

3) Softening dry skin

Petroleum is great for cracked heels or elbows. You only need a small amount to rub in otherwise it would get greasy but it cures dry spots in 12hrs!

4) Lengthening and creating fuller lashes

It is said that if you apply a touch of Vaseline to your eyelashes every night, over time,  they will grow fuller and longer. Cool, huh?

5) Making various flavoured lip balms/glosses

Simply mix with whatever flavouring takes your fancy (within reason…) – anything from honey to blended strawberries. You could even melt a single chocolate chip and of course some Vaseline together in the microwave for some chocolate flavoured lip gloss.

6) Making a scrub

Mixing with various sea salts creates a sumptuous and soothing scrub, however I can not say I have tried it myself.

7) Prepare eyelids

Underneath eye shadow, Vaseline creates a shiny, dewy look. Also, it can help the powder sit better – and stay put! Not to mention, how Vaseline has a similar effect on cheeks, making them look youthful and healthy

8) Making sure lipstick does not rub off on your teeth

In order to achieve the afore mentioned, you just apply some of the jelly to your teeth. Can’t imagine it tastes terribly nice though… not sure it sounds very pleasant but hey, if it works!

9) Adding a quick polish to shoes and bags

In a pinch, just rub in a small portion to the surface for a nice shine.

10) Exfoliating lips

Finally, a fairly common and well known use, but nonetheless useful, is how if you apply the petroleum jelly to your lips and then scrub it off with a toothbrush, your lips are left SUPER soft!

Some of these are news to me, and I will definitely be trying some, as I always have a tub of the original handy. Some I’m not too sure about though… You can be the judge of that!

Final Friday Featured Fashion Find (sniff)

Goodbye Friday Featured Fashion Find. We’ve had a good run but I feel us drifting apart… It’s not you it’s me. I just havn’t got the time you deserve to be given anymore… (Sniff).

But I will do one more for old times sake! This week I have been lusting comfy, casual hoodies – but obviously they have to be in trend too! They are a total staple for lounging indoors in comfort, or to shrug on for a brisk walk into town. Here is an affordable yet stylish selection I found this week…

Laura Neon Zip Through Hoody £10

Forever 21 £16.75

Mariah Dogtooth All Over Print Zip Up Hoodie

Boohoo (in the sale) £8

Jack Wills £59.50

Hollister £50

The last two are better if you want a good quality hoodie – I can personally vouch for the fact that the Hollister one is REALLY soft as I have a navy one which I wear with everything. However, the others are great bargain buys. All are super casual but with a hint of a trend going on – meaning you can wear it out!

Friday Featured FURRY?! Fashion Find

Low and behold, I give you the new predicted ‘Marmite’ of the fashion world – you’ll either love it or hate it. I must say, I’m rather… Baffled, by this revolution…..

£3 each, can be found in Superdrug

Your eyes do not deceive you, it is indeed fur for your nails. You apply your nail varnish and then immediately while the nail is wet, press it in the fur. And then, there you have it, ‘furfect’, if you will! But… Why?? Is it classy and chic to have hairy fingertips? Coloured fluff sprouting from your nails? I’m not sure…

But maybe if it’s merely a kind of velvet effect it might be more appealing. I can see that being cool! But fur? I’m always ‘fur’ious (get it?! 😉 ) if I get some fluff on my nails and they dry on! I don’t know. I guess I’d have to see it on, or even, shock horror, buy some myself to try it out.

What are your thoughts?

Happy Medium

Mid heels, midi dresses, midi skirts, mid-drift skimming tops… Ok, I made that last phrase up, but crop tops are also in, and are these sounding familiar? Because all things ‘midi’ are big news this season!

1 and 2. New Look £19,99   3. £17.99   4. Topshop £55.00

I can’t decide which colour scheme I prefer out of the first too… the casual tan with boho, festival-esque coloured sole, or the edgy monochrome with the aztec-ish patterned sole…! Which do you prefer? I adore the third red pair as well, for two reasons: 1) I adore the colour red. Striking, feminine, but with a hint of danger. And 2) this style with the band over the toe and the skinny strap around the ankle is all over the catwalk and looks chic and expensive. The same goes for the fourth pair, about the shape but these come in a sleek, sophisticated grey with a clean silhouette, but with an edgy, modern heel. What’s more, mid heels are far more feet friendly than whopping platforms, which is always a plus in my books!

1.2.3. 4.

1. Chiara £14.95    2. Select fashion £8    3. Fashion Union £15    4. Topshop £20

Aztec, tie dye, graphitti and bright and bold colours all make uber trendy and fashionable midi skirts and dresses. They are often really reasonably priced too – my favourite, the graphitti dress from Fashion Union, for example, is an awesome £15! £15!!! :-O!!!! You would probably be able to dress them up or down. When I asked my friend whether someone could wear it casually or for an event she said: ”Well… You wear clothes all the time don’t you?”, oh dear… this is why I love her! I personally prefer the bright, fun ones as opposed to the monochrome, sophisticated ones, but that’s just me, I know lots of people who look gorgeous with the more grown-up ones.

1.2. 3.

1. Topshop £14    2 Topshop £22    3. New Look £9.99

Cutsie or exotic, there’s one for everyone. Ok, I realise they’re a bit daring and scary but their the perfect holiday staple or they could be worn with a high-waisted skirt or shorts so you only reveal a strip of skin. I ADORE the first one, it’s just soo pretty!! And it’s a pretty good price for Topshop too. Not to mention the New Look one is so fun too, only £9.99. :-O

Which of the ‘midi’s are your favourites? I think the crop tops are the most fun, but then again, the dresses and skirts are so classy… and the heels so practical… I can’t decide!!

”Here comes the sun, da da da DA!”

Forget what I said last week, bring on Summer!! Who can resist the tingling, golden rays cascading off you skin, the vast baby blue expanse stretching across the sky, the birds singing, the butterflies flitting, summer sizzling, not me. Forget neutrals, monochrome and all that, this week I’ve been all about colour and fun in the sun what with possibly the nicest bank holiday ever, so I hope these fresh and funky sunnies reflect this….

1. H&M £3.99

2. H&M £5.99

3. Asos £12

4. Asos £16

5. Topshop £20

6. Simply Be £16

Some of you may be ‘tut tutting’ at the high street brands here as I know a lot of people like to splash out for a classic, timeless pair sunglasses as they believe they are something which should be good quality, however I prefer cheap and cheerful on trend ones so I can replace them every year and have more than one pair! Though I can see the sense with both methods. 🙂

Which are your faves?

Avon Speed Dry+

Ok, I am officially in love with this nail varnish. And what’s more, my epic quest to find myself some mint nail varnish is now over!! I know, I know, I’m a bit late to catch on to the pastel nail trend but better late than never, eh?

I was a bit disappointed at first actually, as I ordered this nail varnish and hadn’t actually seen it, it looked worryingly more white than green. My upset increased with the first coat as it came out really watery and milky. But it was dry as soon as I’d finished my other hand! So I pursued and did a second coat and it looked miles better and I am now IN LOVE with it, the shade is called ‘Sprightly Mint’. And it really is the quickest drying polish I’ve ever tried, you literally wait 30 seconds and it’s done. Oh, AND it was only £2.50 for 12ml so I will definitely be looking out for more of their shades!

Call me a pessimist, but I don’t want to get too excited about this sudden warm, sunny spell. So instead of getting ahead of myself and writing about cute sundresses, skirts, shorts and sleeveless blouses (as much as I want to!) I am going to expect the worst and see if British weather will surprise me, so here are some super cute umbrellas I came across this week:

20130503-173641.jpg £42

20130503-173628.jpg £42

John Lewis £18

20130503-173654.jpg £37

Surfdome £32

Which are your faves? I think mine has to be the second one because of it’s too cute bubble shape, sweet heart graphic and ‘rain rain go away’ quote – adorable!!
